Velvet 89, the award-winning hidden object puzzler from Czech indie studio Charles Games, has turned one. So, the team has dropped a big anniversary update. Known for its beautifully illustrated depiction of the Velvet Revolution of 1989, has now expanded its world with the addition of new cities.

What’s new in Velvet 89?

Brno is the new city in the game. It played a significant role during the 1989 Revolution. The update adds an entirely new level that captures the Moravian city’s revolutionary spirit. And alongside it is its own snowy atmosphere, the first of its kind in the game.

The level includes ten new characters and three hidden items. The developers have paid close attention to historical detail, even recreating Brno’s famous plague monument that still stands today. Completing the scene will reward you with authentic archival footage from 1989.

Every existing scene in the game has also been refreshed with three new hidden items. So, there are now total eighteen new collectibles across all levels. From miners’ badges and cameras to soldiers’ berets and manifestation leaflets, each object unlocks exclusive photos or archival materials in a special in-game library.

The new content expands the game to six levels spread across five cities. It gives you an even broader look at the Velvet Revolution and the many perspectives, the social, generational, and gendered.
