Xbox One and the Playstation 4 are both pushing the second-screen experience with plenty of their major titles. For those of you not familiar with what the second-screen experience is, basically this offers up the ability to access exclusive content, manipulate in-game features and other goodies when your phone or tablet connects to one of these consoles.
While a lot of the time you won’t actually get to play the actual game, you’ll be able to do quite a few things anyways. This has been a trend that has started up only in the last year with the advent of companion apps becoming much more integrated with their corresponding games. When it comes to Dead Rising 3, players will get exclusive missions and characters that they will be able to access. It will also skin your phone to look like the one in the game when it connects to your Xbox One.
After you launch the app, it notices that Dead Rising is currently being played, press a button, and in kicks our phone. It actually skins your phone to be like the phone from the game’s universe. You’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. If you don’t have access to the Xbox SmartGlass app for whatever reason, you’ll still be able to complete the game just fine without all the extra content. Speaking of customizing your phone when it connects to Dead Rising 3, you’ll also have access to custom ringtones as well. When Dead Rising 3 launches in November, the extra content will be available within Xbox SmartGlass right from the jump.
