Yesterday, OpenFeint revealed a partnership with The9 which is aimed at helping indie iOS game developers with porting their games to Android and the costs associated with that. Today, Scoreloop just announced that they are as well trying to give the iOS game developers a bit of a push in bringing their games to Android.
OpenFeint and The9 have formed a little partnership to help indie developers in bringing their games to Android from other platforms. We all know OpenFeint have been helping the indie scene for quite some time now and The9 is a Chinese game publisher that happens to have a $100 million dollar fund set up.
GameSpy has just announced today that they will be making available all their tools and APIs for developers to use across all gaming platforms including Android. If you have played Dungeon Defenders then you may have seen the GameSpy logo at the start up of the game. Dungeon Defenders is the first Android title to use GameSpy Open.
Indie game developers can qualify for some pretty awesome programs these days thanks to other major developers offering up programs to help the indie guys out. MocoSpace is another one getting into the developer helping arena with their new million dollar developer fund for HTML5 mobile game developers.
Papaya Mobile is certainly not slowing down any time soon it seems. Starting off with a few games, Papaya Mobile has developed into a social gaming force in the mobile scene coming out with an SDK, in-game payments system and now an easy-to-use game engine for Android developers to use to make Android games.
This may cause an upswing in mediocre games being brought to the Android Market, it may not. It could bring a lot of cool retro-ish type games instead but for right now there is no way to tell. One thing is for sure though, it will be interesting to see what comes out of YoYo Games’ drag-and-drop game development program called Game Maker which will soon support Android.
