In my usual morning fashion I sat down in front of my computer with a large bottle of Rockstar and proceeded to go through my morning routine of reading up on Android news at a few various Android related sites. Google hiring a dedicated game developer advocate now not only shows that Google is truly ready to commit to getting Android out there as a viable gaming platform but that they are willing to spare no expense and hire someone who’s considered a veteran in the gaming industry. Enter Mark DeLoura…
Mark DeLoura would be considered by a lot as a veteran in the gaming industry. Some of his previous work experience includes consulting for Song Entertainment, Game Developer Magazine, Nintendo, and Ubisoft and is also on the IGDA (International Game Developers Association) Board of Directors which is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping and promoting game developers whether it be at conferences or via special interest groups. He also runs a great blog which deals with gaming technology.
As you can see by this short little resume I just posted, he’s got a lot under his belt in terms of experience and this is only going to help games and gaming on the Android platform. We saw Google hand out phones to game developers over at GDC 2010 and this is just another step in the right direction.
One of Mark’s goals is to figure out how to make it easier for developers to make games for Android devices. His actual quote from his talk with gaming industry blog Gamsutra:
I personally feel that Google hiring someone specifically to focus on games is a signal from the company that they recognize the growing importance of games as a medium… Now how do we make it easier for developers to express themselves and share the experiences they create?
Well we do have a few suggestions should you be willing to listen to them Mark! But we will let you get situated for now at your new spot at Google.
