LG Optimus 3D will soon be able to play 2D games in 3D such as Angry Birds.

Interesting little bit of information we stumbled upon while surfing the web for more great Android gaming news. This will make the LG Optimus 3D phone a lot more enticing for those gamers out there wanting to play games in 3D. Soon, the Optimus 3D will be able to convert 2D games into 3D ones. Thanks to Android 2.3 in October.

With this little bit of great news regarding 2D games being converted into 3D on the Optimus 3D soon, there is one requirement that the games must have in order for it to work. This requirement is that the games need to be made using Open GL. Currently the Optimus 3D won’t be able to do this sort of converting as it runs Android 2.2 but according to LG Android 2.3 will be pushed to the Optimus 3D sometime in October. At that point, the device will be able to convert 2D games built with Open GL into 3D games.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of games made with Open GL on Android, some very big ones actually. For instance, when your Optimus 3D gets it’s Android 2.3 update, you will be able to play Angry Birds in 3D.Other companies such as Gameloft are making fully 3D-enabled games available already and generally the 3D effect will be a little better on those titles than ones who are converted by the device. This doesn’t mean that converted 3D games will be bad though and even some sort of 3D effect on games like Angry Birds will add a new twist to the game itself if for no other reason than freshening up the visuals.

So what Open GL games would you like to play in 3D? Perhaps we can make a list for easier reference for everyone.
