The Ematic eGlide Prism tablet offers Android 4.0 for $157

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is pretty tempting at $249, but there’s another Android 4.0 tablet available that’s even cheaper than that. The tablet you see here is called the Ematic eGlide Prism. It’s being sold for $157.16 from Shop NBC. I’d understand if you cringed just now, but let’s give this tablet a fair shake before condemning it.

Even though the eGlide Prism is cheap, it sounds quite pleasant on paper. It has a 7-inch 800×480 display , Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and 5GB of additional cloud storage. Surprisingly enough, this tablet is also capable of playing back 2160p 3D HD videos. It’s not glasses-free 3D, but the tablet comes with a pair of 3D glasses.

We aren’t sure if Google Play, Gmail or any of Google’s others suite of apps are available on this tablet. If not, you’ll have to get all your apps from third-party sources.

All in all, the eGlide Prism sounds reasonable, but we really need to see how it performs basic functions before recommending it.
