[Updated] Gameloft’s Asphalt 7: Heat now showing Airpush Ads, enables gamer’s rage

When it comes to ads and Android games, many of us have come to terms with the fact that they will always be there. In fact it is pretty much a standard option of monetizing a game that a developer releases for free. When we buy a game, we generally expect to not see ads at all although sometimes they are included anyways. Well Gameloft’s Asphalt 7: Heat is now using Airpush which happens to be one of the ad serving services that most people find incredibly annoying.

Update January 22th, 2013 11:46am: We’ve posted an update regarding this issue and an official statement from Gameloft.

For those of you not familiar with Airpush, basically it serves ads to you via notifications on your phone instead of being actually in the game you’re playing. The problem is that these can become extremely annoying. With Asphalt 7: Heat though it seems that the Airpush ads are spamming players relentlessly to the point where people are actually getting angry and complaining and rightfully so. An onslaught of Airpush ads can actually make the game you’re playing lag and in a racing game that can cause some not-so-good results.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the majority of the ‘ads’ being pushed to the notifications tray on people’s devices are for them to play more Asphalt 7: Heat. Gameloft isn’t actually coming out to say they are using Airpush but they did offer away for people who find these ads annoying to opt-out of them. Of course if you are running Android 4.1 or higher there is also a way through the settings to disable notifications for any app or game installed on your device.

However, for those of you who are not running Android 4.1+ Gameloft suggests going to this Airpush Opt-out site and once you arrive there you will be given two different ways you can go to opt-out of these ads. I suppose it is a good thing that Airpush offers up a way for people to Opt-out of their annoying service.

So if you happen to be playing Asphalt 7: Heat, or any other game for that matter using Airpush, you can at least get rid of those annoying notification ads now.
