Award Winning Adventure Game Botanicula Arrives in the Play Store

Amanita Design is a a small game studio based in the Czech Republic. They know how to make award-winning games. The studio was started in 2003 by Jakub Dvorsky, and now, Amanita Design has seven members, including Mr. Dvorsky. Have you heard of a game called Machinarium? If you have, you are familiar with Amanita Design. Today, we learned that another of their titles, Botanicula, has finally made its way to the Play Store. Adventure/puzzle fans should be excited, because Botanicula is another wonderful adventure game.

“Botanicula is a humor-filled adventure game about five friends, little tree creatures who set out on a journey to save the last seed from their home tree, which is infested by evil parasites.” – Amanita Design The game has won the following awards: IGF Excellence in Audio Award, Game of the Year, IndieCade: Best Story/World Design Award, IGM Readers’ Choice Award in Best Sound/Music, and Mac App Store Best of 2012, just to name a few. Yes, that last award said 2012. The game first took roots in the PC realm, where it was highly-regarded as an enjoyable game to play. It has taken a long time for Botanicula to arrive to Android, but it should be worth the wait.

Botanicula is a point and click adventure game much like Machinarium. There are fewer adventure games being made these days, but Botanicula will take you on a memorable journey worthy of your time. Through the opening sequence, which is depicted beautifully, we learn that all is not well for the inhabitants of a tree. Their home is under attack by evil parasites. As with most adventure games, Botanicula is all about exploration, and what an amazing world it is to explore. As the five little friends travel through different limbs, branches and beyond, they encounter puzzles that need to be solved.  There is a good hint system that helps you along, as you explore over 150 different areas of the tree.

Botanicula Features:

  • Relaxed game perfect for hard core gamers, their partners, families and seniors.
  • More than 150 detailed locations to explore.
  • Hundreds of funny animations.
  • Incredible amount of hidden bonuses.
  • Award winning music by Dva.

Botanicula is a stunningly beautiful game. If you have played Machinarium, you know that there will be a fair amount of head scratching involved to solve some of the puzzles, but that is a good thing. Botanicula is a premium title that can be downloaded for $4.99. The Play Store says it is compatible with Android devices running 2.2 and up, but when I checked for my two devices, only one of them was compatible. Hopefully, more devices will be added later. It was compatible with my phone, but not my tablet. If your device has the latest hardware, you shouldn’t have a problem.

It is good to see game studios that are committed to bringing high-quality games to the Android community. In this case, it may have taken a while, but we are glad Amanita Design continued to work hard to make it happen. If you are not sure whether this adventure game will hold your interest or not, you can always play the free PC demo. We have included the link below. It allows you to solve the first puzzle within the game. If you are already a fan of games like Machinarium, you can download this title without reservation. The excellent soundtrack by Dva is also available in the Play Store. Check them both out to get the full experience of a unique world created by Amanita Design.
