Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings is now available for the Shield Android TV

From the crack of the bat to the thunderous cheers of the crowd, the sport of baseball is already one of the greatest games ever played, at least in the US. And now owners of a Tegra X1 powered Shield Android TV can play one of the more entertaining baseball games originally for PC and consoles, Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings.

Rather than include all the statistical details and minutiae of real baseball, Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings is very much an arcade take on the sport. It fully captures the spirit of the game while making it fast-paced and immediately satisfying. Even if you’re a diehard baseball fan, for pure unfettered hardball enjoyment Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings has a lot to offer.

Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings also launches on Shield Android TV with support for local multiplayer, so if you’re planning to get the game and play with friends you might want to invest in an extra Shield controller if you don’t have one already.

The game’s sense of fun is all pervading, from the player’s exaggerated physical features to the fact that they burst into tears after a strikeout. You can also change players’ names, the way they look and as the game progresses you will be able to upgrade various abilities to change or improve a player’s style of play.

Pitching consists of choosing from nine different pitches depending on the strengths or weaknesses of your current pitcher. Once you have chosen a pitch you then have to throw it and manipulate the on-screen pointer to direct the ball the way you want it to go. As you would expect, batters will grow wise to repetitive pitching so you need to mix it up a bit. Batting consists of watching for the trajectory of the pitch and swinging with perfect timing.

As for fielding, it is handled in a way that will be familiar to regular players of baseball games. Obviously you can’t control all the fielders individually so for the most part they react automatically to the action with the option to manually manipulate the speed and direction of a particularly relevant fielder or perform a catch if one is possible.

The new Android edition of Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings has launched exclusively on Shield Android TV today. If you’re a Shield Android TV owner, Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings is available to download now via Google Play for $19.99. You can also check out Nvidia’s upcoming Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings live stream on Twitch tonight, 6pm PST. If you tune in to the live stream, you’ll have a chance to win prizes including Shields, game codes and more.
