Huawei Mate20 X will compete with the Nintendo Switch, the Chinese company announced today.
During a press conference in which the device was shown off, the Huawei Mate20 X was displayed side-by-side with the Switch.
And yes, it appears to be a better device than the Switch on paper. It has a 1080P OLED display, Kirin 980 processor, and a 5,000 mAh battery – up from the 4,310 mAh on the Switch.

There’s even a game pad that slides onto the side of the device, and looks remarkably similar to the Switch’s Joy-Cons.
However, you’re going to pay a premium for this Switch “competitor”. It markets at a massive $1,450, compared to the Switch’s more reasonable $300.
Then there’s the fact that the Mate20 X can’t possibly compete with the Switch where games are concerned. The Switch has Zelda, Mario, Skyrim, and much more.
Oh, and then the controller. At first glance, we thought that the promotional image was only showing the left slideable controller so we can see what the device looks like on the right. But no – the left side IS the controller. You could argue that Android don’t need a right-sided controller, but there’s no mistaking that physical controls are just better.
So while we’re all for a Nintendo Switch competitor that utilises the unique features Android provides, the Mate20 X isn’t that. It’s simply far too expensive – especially when you factor in that
