The Best Android Games of 2021 So Far

League of Legends: Wild Rift

It might have landed elsewhere at the end of last year, but League of Legends: Wild Rift didn’t launch in the Americas until 2021. It’s a magnificent translation of one of the biggest games in the world into mobile form, capturing everything that makes LoL quite so brilliant in one pocket-sized package. If you haven’t played it yet, you definitely should.

Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee

A souped up version of a fantastic mash-up of a roguelike and a tower defense game. This is a deep, dramatic and difficult experience and the extra bits and bobs in the Apogee edition make it an absolute must-buy.

XCOM 2 Collection

The complete XCOM 2 experience in one package. You’re getting the base game and all the DLC for one, premium price point. The game works wonderfully on mobile, and still stands as one of the greatest strategy games ever made.

Trials of Mana

Another big, premium release. This one is a mobile version of a recent console remaster of a classic SNES RPG. It’s packed full of action and monsters, it’s slick to the point of being slippery and it’s well worth checking out if you’re a fan of the JRPG.

Bomb Club

A brilliant and bonkers puzzler that sees you chaining together explosions to clear errant bombs. There’s loads of thinking to do, plenty of puzzles to fathom and a bunch of different kinds of bomb to get to grips with. It’s free with IAPs, but the monetization is spot on and not manipulative.

Baba is You

Another spectacular puzzle game. This one sees you rearranging words to change how the levels work. Sometimes you’re Baba, sometimes you’re the wall. It’s pretty complex to explain, but when you’re playing everything clicks in a remarkable manner. It’s premium and worth every cent.

The Witcher Tales: Thronebreaker

A super slick RPG that’s built around the Gwent card game. The story here is worth the entrance price alone, and the gameplay complements it brilliantly. If you want to explore the Witcher world in a new and unique way, check it out. The first couple of hours are free, with an IAP to unlock the rest.

Queen: Rock Tour

Who knew that 2021 would see the release of a really brilliant rhythm game? Especially on mobile. But here we are. Queen: Rock Tour is a glorious and joyous experience, filled with classic songs and exciting gameplay. It’s free to play, but you’ll need to buy an IAP to unlock everything the game has to offer.

Slay the Spire

This is, quite frankly, one of the best card-based dungeon crawlers that we’ve ever played. Packed with amazing ideas, it sees you building a deck of cards to take on ever-more challenging monsters. It’s almost impossible not to get addicted once you start playing. Slay the Spire is a premium release with no IAPs.

Titan Quest: Legendary Edition

The complete edition of this classic hack-and-slasher. There’s enough game in this bundle to keep you playing for most of the rest of the year, and you’re going to enjoy all of it. This one’s a premium release, but you’re getting a AAA dungeon crawler at that price.
