This July, Wooga’s June’s Journey is celebrating the United States Semiquincentennial with a new update called Legacy’s Road. It’s putting the spotlight on real pieces of American Revolutionary history that have disappeared over the years.
So, players outside of America might not know, but this year marks the United States’s 250th anniversary, also known as the Semiquincentennial. Legacy’s Road celebrates this real-world event with multiple in-game events and missions.
Here’s what Legacy’s Road adds to June’s Journey
First up is June’s Photo Journal: Lost to Time, which runs until July 14th. In this, you collect photo pieces from events and sales, putting together five photographs of real museum artifacts, connected to the American Revolution.
Actually, Wooga worked alongside museum collections, historic sites, and academic specialists to research and verify each item before bringing it into the game. The rewards in the event include Ivory, Red, and Blue Liberty Packs. Anyone who completes all five photos unlocks the Bells and Bunting decoration.
The Legacy’s Road campaign in June’s Journey also asks some pretty interesting questions. How do important historical artifacts disappear in the first place? Why do they matter? Those questions become part of June’s investigation during her visit to American museums.
The campaign was inspired by the rediscovery of the painting Sleeping Lady with Black Vase by artist Róbert Berény. In 2009, art historian Gergely Barki recognised the painting after spotting it in the background of the children’s movie Stuart Little. That unexpected discovery showed that missing historical objects can sometimes resurface in places nobody would think to look.
Back to the events! Next is The Americana Adventure Set, available until July 31st. It brings a collection inspired by 1920s Americana, so you can give your island a road-trip makeover throughout the month.
Lastly, there’s Travels: American Midwest Trip. The storyline follows June and Virginia as they travel across the American Midwest in a camper, visiting Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore, and various roadside attractions while helping Virginia get over her college blues. Completing the trip unlocks the Travels: Midwestern USA flag decoration.
