The Best New Games for Android This Week – A Musical Story, Growing Up and More

Saturday has pulled down Friday’s pants and shoved it down a manhole cover, cackling all the while. And that means it’s time for us to take a look at the very best games that have landed on the Play Store over the past seven days.

This week we’ve got heartfelt rhythm action, life sims set in the 90’s, and a game that will make you pull your hair out in frustration. It’s a grab bag of genres, but they’re all well worth checking out. They’re all premium unless otherwise stated.

You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store, if that’s the sort of thing you’re into. And if you’ve spotted something you think should have made it on this list, let us know in the comments below.

Growing Up

A life sim that sees you playing through the childhood of a kid in the 90’s. It’s full of heart, interesting characters and a special kind of nostalgia that’s going to pull at certain people’s heartstrings in all the right ways. Expect a lot of plaid.

A Musical Story

A rhythm action game that deals with some pretty big themes – life, death, memory, all the big ones. It’s set in the 60’s, it looks gorgeous, and it’s got 26 songs for you to play your way through.

The Impossible Game 2

A super-challenging platforming sequel that sees you jumping through a series of incredibly difficult levels. You control everything with a single finger, and it’s all about getting your timing absolutely perfect. It’s free with a single IAP to unlock some extra content.

Fatal Fury ACA NeoGeo

A kick-punching classic gets a long awaited release on mobile. It’s got all the ACA bells and whistles, and some proper retro charm to it. It might not have the heft of some modern brawlers, but it’s a great glimpse at how the genre got started.

Phobies

A hex-based strategy game with some pedigree behind it. It’s set in the human psyche, and it sees you collecting different aspects of your brain to use in battle. There are a bunch of single and multiplayer modes, and a decent level of challenge. This one’s free with IAP.
