Build an Island Bees Guide – How They Work
Before buying your first bee, you must unlock the beehives. Each hive costs 30 planks, with the first three being unlocked to the left of the workers’ for-hire house. Each hive holds 5 bees, making 15 total.
Bees slowly accumulate pollen from nearby flower beds and return it to the hive. When full, players collect their spoils in the form of Honey. The more bees per hive, the quicker and more efficiently they produce Honey.
Similar to plants and crafting, Honey is a passive income source where players can gain more Gold. Of all Gold types, Bees are pretty meta, quickly paying off their initial purchase cost and generating a fast turnover. For example, the Honey Bee costs 120 Gold, and a Honeycomb sells for around 40 Gold on average. This means you only need to sell x3 Honey to break even before profiting!

- Honey Bee
- Cost: 120 Gold
- Rarity: Rare
- Produces: Honey
- Honey Selling Price: 40 Gold
- Magma Bee
- Cost: 1,800 Gold
- Rarity: Legendary
- Produces: Magma Honey
- Honey Selling Price: 400 Gold
Hint: The Magma Bee will never appear stocked unless you’ve unlocked the Volcano Area and the beehives surrounding it.
Don’t forget, Build an Island has a Busy Bee Potion, costing 135 Gold from the Merchant stall if stocked. This rare Potion doubles the Bee productivity around your island, meaning they work twice as fast, and in turn, create profits twice as fast too!
