Can Crops Get Mutations When You’re Offline in Grow a Garden?
In short, sometimes! It all depends on the mutation type. Mutations can be split into three main categories: Growth, Event/Weather, and Pets. Of these three, only one can manifest when a player isn’t online. Let’s get into it!
Growth Mutations
Drumroll! Rather than leaving you in anticipation, I figured I’d tell you the only mutations that can happen when you’re offline. That being Growth Mutations, such as Golden and Rainbow.
Growth Mutation means crops that get their start with a mutation. Each time a fruit is produced, it has the chance to grow into a normal, large, golden, or rainbow variant. Large isn’t technically a mutation, so I’ll only focus on Gold and Rainbow.
- Gold: 1% Chance: x20 Value
- Rainbow: 0.1% Chance: x50 Value.
If you plant a new seed, or pick up a ton of multi-harvest crops and log out, there’s a chance you’ll log back in to find a new fruit with the Golden or Rainbow mutations (Never both!)
Event and Weather Mutations
Event and Weather Mutations apply to those only found during an in-game forecast, such as Rain, Storm, Disco, etc. Unfortunately, if you’re offline, you’ll miss out. Mutations found during Events and Weathers won’t apply to crops if you’re not online to experience each forecast.
The only thing that happens to your garden when you’re offline is the growth of crops. So, if you plant a new seed and leave for a few hours, it’ll likely be fully grown when you return. Similarly, if you harvest crops from a multi-producing plant, you’ll return to new fruits to gather.
Pet Mutations
This category has overlaps with both Event/Weather and Growth, but in short, it’s asking if pets can work to apply mutations when offline. Which, even if fully fed, pets cannot mutate crops offline.
Some pets, like the Dragonfly and Butterfly, will apply Growth Mutations such as Gold or Rainbow, and even though Growth Mutations do appear when offline, the pets stop functioning, so they won’t. At least not due to the aid of pets.
Similarly, Event and Weather Mutations only manifest if a player is online, so pets such as the Bee and Polar Bear, who apply Pollinated and Chilled, also won’t mutate any crops offline.
