As you might know, Epic Games gives out one or more free mobile game(s) every week (along with two on PC). It started with the store’s launch in December 2018 as a biweekly tradition, and later, due to popular demand, it became a weekly system in June 2019. So, this week’s free mobile game on the Epic Games Store is The Ouroboros King.

So, The Ouroboros King is currently free on mobile through the Epic Games Store until July 23rd, 2026, 11 am EDT. The game is otherwise available for $8.99. On the Google Play Store, you get an ad-free demo version that offers 1 of 3 acts and 22 of 57 pieces.

What’s the game about?

The Ouroboros King is a strategic chess roguelike. The game originally launched on mobile in September 2023, developed by former data scientist Oriol Cosp. It takes inspiration from a lot of other titles. The dev lists Shotgun King: Chess, The Final Checkmate, Pawnbarian, Slay the Spire, Into the Breach, and 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel.

You try to free the Kingdom of Thessalonia from the Coven. You build your army by combining classic chess pieces with all kinds of fairy chess pieces. Also, you can collect relics that permanently boost your units and consumable items that give temporary advantages during a run.

Battles also have their own twist. You only get to move one piece each turn, so every move actually matters. The goal is to make your army work together and completely wipe out the enemy’s forces instead of just relying on one overpowered unit.

And because it’s a roguelike, losing isn’t really the end. If you’re defeated, you jump into another timeline where everything changes. You’ll get a different map, different enemies, and different rewards, so each run plays out differently.
