House of the Lost first launched in 2013 for iOS, but was taken down from the App Store in 2019 due to some technical issues. A popular roguelike, the game is now making a comeback on mobile as House of the Lost: Revived.
The old game actually became one of the earliest mobile roguelikes and showed that the genre could actually work on touchscreen devices. It featured shifting levels filled with Halloween monsters, giant boss battles, weapon crafting, and hidden secrets behind every wall.
After being gone for seven years, House of the Lost: Revived brings the same story and gameplay but with improved visuals, features and mechanics. And this time, it’s up on Android, too! The game’s developed and published by F5 Games.
So, what are the new additions in House of the Lost: Revived?
The default controls now use directional shooting, although you can switch back to the original NES-style button controls if you want. The game still includes multiple boss domains, plenty of secrets to uncover, and online leaderboards and achievements.
As for the story, it’s the same, too. Your sister has disappeared into the House of the Lost, and it’s up to you to rescue her. You grab your slingshot, head inside, and try to survive a haunted mansion that’s full of monsters, traps, bosses, and way too many ways to die.
House of the Lost: Revived is a top-down action roguelike dungeon crawler. Every trip into the House is different because the levels are randomly generated. The game mixes the chaotic feel of The Binding of Isaac with the dungeon-crawling style of classic Zelda.
You also spend plenty of time crafting weapons. Combine weapons and items into all kinds of powerful tools. The House has four different haunted environments, with different enemies, hazards, and an epic boss battle at the end.
You can download House of the Lost: Revived for free from the Google Play Store. You get to play through the first two levels and defeat the first boss as many times as you want without paying anything. The full game unlocks with a one-time purchase without any ads. Everything also works completely offline.
