Dead Rails New Challenges Guide
Challenges are accessed via the Challenge Board in the lobby. Devs may add more with each new content update, these normally come bi-weekly, though sometimes they make more frequent updates for special events.
Version 0.14.0
The 16th of May update added a new challenge to make sure of the new liquids mechanic.
Scorched Earth
Reward:

Scorched Earth requires you to complete the game mode called, uh, Scorched Earth. Just a run, right? Well, more or less. Except some enemies are on fire, and are immune to fire.. and they set you on fire if they touch you… And you’re not immune to fire. (No, you can’t use the Arsonist class, either.) Well, at least it’s raining… oh… it’s raining kerosene. Well, good luck, everybody.
Easter Update
The following limited-time challenge came in with the Easter event update.
Eggstravaganza
Reward:
- 30 Bonds
- 9★
To complete this one you need to find 6 Golden Eggs hidden throughout the special locations on the Dead Rails map. You can generally hear these eggs before you see them, as they admit a sort of shimmering sound. You’ll find one in Sterling Mines, two in the Castle, two in Fort Constitution, and one in the Tesla Lab. Collect all in a single run to complete the challenge and earn your Bonds.
April 11th Update
The following challenges arrive on the Challenge Board as of the April 11th content update.
Fistful Of Dollars
Reward:
- 30 Bonds
- 9★
The objective in Fistful Of Dollars is to complete a whole run without selling anything. Not even the starting gold bar. This means being unable to buy coal for fuel, or ammunition for firearms. We’d recommend Vampire, Packmaster, or Necromancer for this challenge because of their ability to deal damage without firearms, or Cowboy for starting with a horse.
Dances with Wolves
Reward:
- 15 Bonds
- 3★
The objective of Dances With Wolves is to tame a total of 20 wolves in the space of a single run. We’d recommend the Packmaster class for this challenge, as you will automatically tame wolves that attack you on contact, making the process easier.
Electric Remains
Reward:
- 30 Bonds
- 9★
The objective of Electric Remains is to is to sell the body of the defeated Nikola Tesla boss. This requires taking the boss’ body to the 70km fort before the bridge timer runs down. For this we’d highly recommend a fast class, like the Vampire, or the Werewolf at night.
