Dead Rails Unicorn Guide
First let’s talk about where to find unicorns, then what you might use one for.
Where Do You Find Unicorns?
Unicorns are a rare variation of the game’s horses. Much like horses, you can find them in two different ways.
- Wild. Wild unicorns can spawn with herds of horses out in the desert. It’s easy to mix them up with a white horse until you get fairly close. These unicorns will run away if your approach them.
- Ridden By Bandits. Bandits will sometimes spawn riding saddled unicorns. You can, with a bit of skill and luck, take out the bandit without taking out the unicorn, but it’s a little tricky to do so.
What To Do With Unicorns
There are three potential uses for a unicorn.
- Riding. If the unicorn is alive and has a saddle attached, you can jump on its back and ride it like a regular horse. This doesn’t give much of a bonus versus a normal horse, though.
- Use as fuel. You can throw the unicorn into the train furnace to refuel, though we can’t recommend this unless you have no alternative, mostly due to the third option.
- Sell it. A deceased unicorn should net you $150 at the Trading Post, a pretty handsome sum. A live unicorn is even better, earning a $250 payout per unicorn, which makes for an awful lot of fuel and items.
