Roslit Volcano has erupted, and Dr Finneus is back in town. If you’ve gotten over what he put you through for the Archaeology Quest, he’s got another job for you. That’s what our Fisch Ashfall quest is all about, though maybe expect a few buggy surprises along the way.

Okay, let’s talk about how the quest works in theory, then how it might get a little strange along the way.
How To Complete The Ashfall Quest
This is how it’s supposed to go down.
You can find Dr Finneus on his boat at the following coordinates.
- X -1611
- Y 131
- Z 512
He will tell you there’s something very strange happening with the volcano, and lots of unusual fish appearing in Roslit waters. So, he wants you to catch at least one of every kind.
This means you need to catch one of everything in the Ashfall Bestiary, and hand them over to him.
If you give him one of every species, he’ll reward you with a title, and the Volcano Research Boat, a new limited-edition boat you can’t get any other way.
Dr Finneus Quest Bugs
Okay we’re going to say it. The Dr Finneus quest this time around has been a little bit buggy for us. Maybe more than a little. We’ll run over some possible bugs here. It’s possible by the time you read this that they’ve fixed some, or all of them, but be aware.
- Not able to interact with Dr Finneus. Sometimes you can use the interact option but get no dialogue. This seems to happen more in public servers. Try entering a public server to start the conversation, or switching servers if you’re public already.
- Quest rewards awarded early. Another bug we ran into was getting quest rewards like the boat and title before completing the bestiary, sometimes before even interacting with Finneus.
If this happens, congratulations, but be aware that speaking to Finneus will still remove fish from your inventory, but not award more prizes.
This can be especially painful if her takes an Ashcloud Archerfish, as these can sell for over 20,000C$. Oof. That… might have happened to us during testing. The pain has not gone away. Dr Finneus was put on earth by the Fisch gods to make us suffer.
