Grow a Garden Pet Shards
This guide is a little ambitious since the Zen Update, which released Pet Shards, only dropped with one variant. But, based on how they work, this new feature changes the very way most gardeners will play the game and structure their pet loadout.
Pet Shards are a type of Gear that trains a new skill/attribute onto a pet it’s used on. However, you cannot infinitely stack Pet Shards onto one pet, and will need to choose wisely which pet you appoint a Shard, and what it’s replacing.
This doesn’t replace their existing ability, but Pet Shards do function like a Mutation. Inserting pets into the Mutation Machine will wipe their Shard; similarly, applying a Shard will wipe their Mutation.
Tranquil Shard
The Tranquil Shard hails from the Tanuki NPC’s Store from the Zen Update. It requires first reaching the seventh stage of the Zen Tree growth, and 200 Chi to buy.
This Divine item, when applied to a pet, allows the animal to find their inner peace, giving them the ability to apply the Tranquil mutation to nearby crops.
Tranquil crops are a huge part of the Zen Update, allowing players to exchange them for Chi to buy even more loot from the Tanuki Shop, such as Zen Eggs, Seed Packs, Crates, etc.
The Future of Shards
Take this part with a grain of salt, but if the Tranquil Shard is a hint towards future Shards, we may expect overpowered mutations for pets of limited-time and high-value crop mutations.
