Which pet you hatch from eggs is largely out of your control, but if you know which to equip, you may not have to strive for the rarest. My Grow a Garden Summer Pets Tier List ranks each new companion from best to worst, detailing their abilities and why it’s useful.

Grow a Garden Summer Pets Tier List
Summer won’t last forever, so let’s get right into it!
S-TIER
The best pets from the Summer Update (without comparison to previously released pets). Their skills help enhance garden productivity and profits.
- Mimic Octopus
- Mimics the ability of other pets every 20 minutes and performs that ability. It chooses pets at random from the ones you have working, but if you have high-tier pets such as the Raccoon, the Mimic Octopus is an overpowered pet to enlist!
- Seal
- When selling pets, the Seal has a 2.5% chance to refund the pet as its egg equivalent. This chance is exceptionally low, but could be a great way to stockpile non-obtainable eggs and try for better pets.
- Peacock
- Fans its feathers, advancing the ability cooldown of all other pets. The Peacock excels at speeding up garden production, especially if you have time-based pets working.
A-TIER
Great alternatives to the S-Tier, these pets provide nifty abilities that help the majority of players.
- Capybara
- All pets within 15.48 Studs won’t lose hunger, and gain additional EXP. The Capybara is a machine for keeping pets productive both on and offline. This pet is especially useful when farming Starfish for extra Pet and Egg slots.
- Orangutan
- Materials used when crafting have a chance not to be consumed. This pet is great for crafters, and with some materials being expensive, any chance at keeping them to craft more, or keep spares, is busted.
- Sea Turtle
- Occasionally boosts the EXP gain of nearby pets, and has the chance to apply wet to nearby produce. This dual-ability pet has two great skills and is a solid addition to any garden.
- Toucan
- Makes nearby tropical plants have increased variant chances and grow larger. Given the Summer Update is themed around tropical plants, this pet is great for getting larger and more profitable plants!
B-TIER
Depending on your garden, you’ll either find use for these pets or find them useless. Their skills may be niche or not adaptable, but if they’re useful to you, they’re great companions!
- Scarlet Macaw
- 16% chance to apply the Verdant mutation to a nearby crop every 12 minutes. Other pets have similar skills to this, and it’s overall decent, especially when a high-value fruit gets snagged by the skill.
- Flamingo
- When on one leg, all nearby plants grow incredibly fast. This makes this pet useful for garden productivity, allowing crops to reach maturity quicker and begin mutating. Stonks!
- Starfish
- The starfish generates EXP much quicker than any other pet, ageing rapidly. This makes this pet incredibly useful for unlocking more Pet and Egg Slots since you need to exchange pets of a certain level threshold to gain more.
C-TIER
Not the worst, but these pets have a long way to go to be considered good.
- Seagull
- This pet has a thin chance to refund seeds of shovelled plants. Its use is quite niche, and the chance isn’t high enough to risk shovelling. I recommend using a Recaller or Trowel instead.
- Ostrich
- Any pets hatched from eggs gain an age bonus. This pet is decent if you are aiming to hatch starfishes to exchange for more pet and egg slots. Otherwise, it isn’t all that useful…
D-TIER
Lacklustre compared to their summer kin. These pets aren’t ideal for your garden.
- Crab
- Sometimes scuttles into other players’ gardens, pinching the gardener and siphoning Sheckles for its owner. Overall not great and is a slow way to generate income.
