Ready to start on your path to becoming a master bird catcher? That’s what we’re here to help you with, in our guide on how to play Beaks.

You can play Beaks on Roblox. Once you’ve got the hang of the basics, maybe try out our Beaks Progression guide.

How To Play Beaks – A Beginner’s Guide

Beaks is a game that’s a little like Fisch, but with birds, and a pretty interesting mechanic for catching. In Beaks you shoot at wild birds. Don’t worry, they’re just non-fatal darts. The birds are fine afterwards, and will even perch on your arm, so I guess there’s no hard feelings.

Catching Birds

The main goal in Beaks is catching birds. You do this by taking your dart gun and heading out into the countryside. You’ll see wild birds flying around. Once you’ve found your target, equip your dart gun, and try to hit the bird. This should take a bit off its health bar. The bird is also likely to fly away from you. Keep on after the bird, taking shots at it, and eventually the bar should be empty, the bird will drop, and you’ll catch a new bird, easy enough.

Selling Birds

You make money in Beaks by selling birds to Neil, the Bird Collector in the Beakwoods. Like similar games, you can opt to sell whatever bird you’re holding, or sell all of the birds in your inventory at once. Neil will take the bird and find them a good home, and give you some money in return.

How much money you receive depends on the species of bird, weight, and mutation.

Guns

You start out with a Beakwood Rifle. This is fine to start with, but it’s relatively weak for trying to take out rarer birds. Fortunately, you can upgrade your setup by buying new dart guns at gun merchants across the land. These are locked behind levels, so you’ll need to go out and play the game before you can unlock more powerful guns.

Expect to see more of these appear in later updates.

Darts

Darts are Beaks equivalent of Bait in Fisch. They are items you can equip to your dart gun that will grant certain buffs to your shot. These include the following:

  • Steel Dart
    • Speed +50%
    • Distance +35%
  • Iron Dart
    • Damage +50%
    • Distance +25%
  • Smoke Dart
    • Speed +25%
    • Damage +25%
    • Distance +25%

You can buy darts from Darth, the Dart Merchant. Purchases from him are random, you pay $30 for 3 darts, and there’s no guarantee what you’ll get each time.

Mutations

While you’re out and about, you might see some birds with unusual coloring. If you see these, make them your priority. These are what’s called Mutations, and they’re special rare variations of the species coloring. They look cool, they give you bragging rights, but most importantly, you can sell them for considerably more money.

The Map

The Beaks map is fairly big and comes with several different biomes. Each of them have different species of birds, and a different page in the Beak Book. The biomes in the game currently are:

  • The Beakwoods
    • A wooded area with trees, harboring forest species. This means pigeons, woodpeckers, crows and goldfinches among others.
  • Quill Lake
    • A wetland area with ponds and various water-dwelling birds that often swim on the surface of the lakes.
  • Mount Beaks
    • A high-up, rocky area with new species, though lots of climbing, and slightly annoying outcrops to lose birds behind.
  • Deadlands
    • A blasted, poisoned land beyond Quill Lake. This place is full of gravestones, barrels of toxic waste, and skeletal birds. Well.. they’re still flying around. So.. hopefully they’re okay?
