[Updated] Anonymous claims new PSN break-in, 10 million accounts at risk. Appears to be fake though.

Anonymous has claimed their newest exploit in the world of effing over the big companies and this time Sony was the target again with another Playstation Network breach. So why in hell are we reporting on it? Remember yesterday’s announcement of Playstation Mobile for Vita and Android Playstation Certified devices? That’s why.

One of the key points for the whole Playstation Mobile service was that you could purchase a game and have access to it on all devices you own that are Playstation Certified, whether it be a tablet or a Vita. The connection goes further with the Vita and Playstation 3 where people can buy a game once and use it on either device. This is because the entire service revolves around your Playstation Network ID which is tied to your account details on the Playstation Network.

Anyonmous is claiming to have 50GB of database information, all pertaining to user account information whether it be login information or other details, for a total of 10 million accounts now ‘at risk’. This type of breach does make one question whether or not people’s information will be safe on Playstation Mobile, since it is tied to Playstation Network IDs. Obviously right now it isn’t so you might want to check your login credentials.

Feel free to leave comments below on your thoughts on this matter, especially regarding Playstation Mobile.

Update August 15th, 2012 11:40am: Well Kotaku did a little digging and it appears that this could very well be a hoax. The copy/paste over at pastebin is apparently part of the March breach. Even if this is a hoax, it still brings up a very valid point regarding Playstation Mobile. The breach of the Playstation Network did happen a couple of times now, there is no reason to think it won’t again at some point. Sony is going on record as saying that this is also completely fake.
