The Chobolab’s Mayhem beta on Android has begun!

Let me start by saying I am not the biggest multiplayer gamer. My preference is for an excellent single-player campaign game. A lot of that has to do with how quickly can I get into a game, how long the games last, what type of game it is, and how easy the game is to play. I was intrigued by Chobolab’s Mayhem, so I signed up for the beta. Let me tell you that I am glad I did. Fast and frenetic action describe this enjoyable multiplayer game.

Of course since the game is in Beta, you expect there are things that will need to be worked out. Chobolabs is far along into this game because it seems to work flawlessly, from the match-making to the all out action that zips across your screen with ease. Android and iOS gamers are really going to enjoy playing this. If you got into the beta and have played it, you know exactly what I mean. The game is fun.

Upon giving it a go, the first thing I thought about was my early days of playing Halo multiplayer. People were jumping around everywhere, trying to take out the enemies. Currently, only Deathmatch is available in the beta. It is the red team against the blue team, and it is all about the points. The more enemies you take out, the better. Of course there is the tally at the end that lets you know how poorly you did. This game reminds me of playing multiplayer games on my XBox. Which I haven’t played in a while, thanks to mobile gaming.

“War, humanity, mother nature. The world is a deformed scrapyard of metal, sewage and fire. Two military organizations survive, controlling the last remaining nuclear facilities and hoard what’s left of the world’s energy resources. They fight for resources, attacking each other’s nuclear reactor sites in order knock out the last standing energy grids.” – Chobolabs

There are six characters that will be available in the game. They break down into different classes that you can choose from. What I have enjoyed about playing Mayhem so far, is that once you die and you have to respawn, you can choose another class/character that you have unlocked. The first three that come available are Rhino, Kira and Octane. The two maps that are currently available to play are Hometown and The Factory. Upon release you will have multiple maps and multiple game modes such as Zone Control, Capture the Flag and of course, Deathmatch.

There are three different types of mercs: Striker Class, Tank Class and Ranged Class. Striker Class has Octane and Whiplash. This class moves quickly. When you play the game and see how quickly it moves, you may decide that the Striker Class is the one for you. Tank Class includes Rhino and Scorch. These are the brutes in the game. They are huge hulking characters that have plenty of firepower too. Interestingly enough, they seem to jump pretty well with all that metal attached to their bodies. Last is the Ranged Class, which includes Simona and Kira. These are your sharpshooters. Kira has a cool bow and is trained in Ninjutsu. Simona has a sniper rifle. The characters are well rendered and it is great to see the cast split even between male and female characters.

Each character has tons of upgrades available. Like most games these days, upon winning, you receive crates. In the crates you will receive currency, crystals, ability upgrades and weapons. There are free crates that will unlock on set timers. The type of free crates that are unlocked, are based on your crate ranking. You start off at Bronze and work your way up from there. Or, you can use crystals to purchase giant crates, awesome crates and super awesome crates.

Mayhem is set to launch later this year. You should definitely be on the lookout for this game if you are interested in playing it. If you are familiar with Pre-Launch Me, then you may check that app, to pre-register for the game. You may still have an opportunity to get into the beta that way.  In the meantime, check out this short trailer, showing gameplay. As Chobolabs shares more about the game, we will let you know about it. If you are looking for quick action on your mobile device, Mayhem will fit the bill perfectly!
