Shogun Showdown is a new roguelike combat deckbuilder that’s now part of the Crunchyroll Game Vault. It originally launched in September 2024 for PC and consoles.

Developed by Roboatino and published by Goblinz Studio and Gamera Games (for the other platforms), the game became a hit due to its fresh take on turn-based combat.

What’s the Gameplay Like in Crunchyroll: Shogun Showdown?

Shogun Showdown is a game where you think before you strike. The board is just a single lane, where everything is trying to kill you.

You play as a samurai on a mission to kill a corrupted shogun who has wrecked the world and unleashed some shadowy hell onto the land.

Battles take place across a one-dimensional track, usually 4 to 12 spaces long. You’ll be managing queued-up moves, preparing attacks, shifting positions, and trying not to get cornered by ashigaru warriors.

Every move in Crunchyroll: Shogun Showdown matters since you can only queue up three attacks or actions at once. Runs are procedurally generated, so each time you get new obstacles, enemies, and layout variations.

The game is in pixel art that exudes a distinct feudal Japanese style. You must be eager to take a look at it. So, watch one of the trailers right here!

Have a Subscription?

Crunchyroll: Shogun Showdown small maps, tight rules, and deep strategy. You’ll be unlocking new characters as you go. The characters bring variety, too, with dramatically different abilities and playstyles. The further you progress, the more moves and cards you’ll add to your arsenal.

If you have a Crunchyroll subscription, you can get the game from the Google Play Store for free. It also offers controller support.
