Tin Man Games has brought back Crypt of the Sorcerer to mobile. It’s the notorious Fighting Fantasy gamebook by Ian Livingstone. It first landed in 1987 and has been haunting readers ever since. Just don’t expect mercy because Razaak doesn’t offer any!
An ancient evil is stirring!
Something wicked has crept back into Allansia. The long-dead sorcerer Razaak has crawled back out of his crypt to finish what he started. He’s determined to fulfil his promise of death and tyranny.
The Forces of Chaos are at large across Allansia. You have to battle against the odds and find the only weapon to which Razaak is vulnerable. Arming yourself with protections against his powers, you have to face him in his lair, the Crypt of the Sorcerer.
There are a few tools added to the mobile version. There’s a difficulty setting for a slightly easier go and a Free Read mode for just wandering through the story without getting shredded. They’ve also added a mapping system that tracks your progress across playthroughs.
If you’ve tried the 1987 version, you’ll be happy to know that the original Puffin edition cover art by Les Edwards is back. And so are John Sibbick’s gritty black-and-white illustrations.
There’s also an automated Adventure Sheet that keeps track of your stats, items, and life choices. Meanwhile, unlimited bookmarks let you retry difficult sections as many times as you like.
Crypt of the Sorcerer buries you in a stench of doom
