Today Sony has begun accepting developer sign-ups for the beta version of their Playstation SDK. The SDK from Sony is to provide developers a more uniform platform in which to develop games for the PS Vita and Sony’s Android devices which include the Sony S and Sony P tablets, the Xperia play as well as future devices.
Sony is planning to allow a limited number of developers in the US, UK and Japan into the beta program in which they can test out and start developing with the beta version of the SDK in the hope of getting it ready for an official launch soon. Games developed through the SDK will be playable on the PS Vita and all Sony Playstation certified devices for right now but Sony also has plans to bring their Playstation Suite to other products from various companies as well.
Currently the Playstation SDK uses the C# programming language and is compatible with Windows XP and Win7. Like any good SDK, this one can simulate a PS Vita and all current Playstation certified devices to help make development easier. If you have experience developing for Android then you have probably used the emulator to test your game or application out on various simulated devices. This is the same idea.
Sony hasn’t announced an exact release date yet for when the official launch of the Playstation SDK will be but if you want to try and get into the beta, you can head over to the Playstation Website and sign up.
