Noodlecake Games may be publishing Glorkian Warrior tomorrow but the company has a few other games heading our way in the near future after that. One of those games is RAD Boarding and as it happens the developers were on hand at GDC 2015 which means we got to do a little hands-on with RAD Boarding.
Update: October 14th, 2015 11:44am PST: Just a quick heads-up to everyone who have been waiting for this game to get released. Noodlecake has confirmed that RAD Boarding will finally be getting released tomorrow onto Google Play. We will post another update tomorrow when it arrives with its Google Play listing.
Developed by Other Ocean Interactive, RAD Boarding is a side-scrolling arcade game which takes place in a world where the apocalypse is actually happening at that moment. Since you are a pro boarder, and the world is ending, you decide to ride out in style. Of course if you happen to survive that is always a plus but to accomplish that you can’t be caught by the molten lava that is behind you.
The controls in this game are pretty simple. Basically you tap + hold on the screen as you are coming down onto a hill, or currently going downhill if you are not in the air, and then release when you are going uphill or gliding up into the air. When in the air you can do tricks as well to build up the RAD meter and keep the lava further behind you. There’s also plenty of currency to grab along the way which can be spend on upgrades and customizing the look and stats of your character. Unlocking upgrades and new gear is done by simply traveling further until you reach a goal distance where a specific upgrade unlocks.
RAD Boarding Features:
• Sweet Environments – Work your way up through ever increasing challenges, adventuring through the grasslands, desert and jungle until you reach the ultimate challenge of the Ice Lands.
• RAD Mode – You’ll need to perform FLY combos to activate RAD Mode and crank the awesome levels up to 11! Maintain RAD Mode to slow down the lava.
• Sick Tricks – Ride out the end of the world in style with some smooth tricks. Unlock new abilities as you level-up and chain them together for a sweet variety bonus.
• Epic Boss Battles – Face off against Tiny the Bear in adrenaline-fueled boss battles.
• Deadly Tombstones – Beat your friends and show off your high score by smashing through their tombstones. Unlock new deadly tombstones and let the world know that you’re totally RAD.
• Pop the Frogs – Discover rare frogs on the slopes and pop them for cool rewards! Earn costume pieces to unlock new threads and sets of Milk Caps for bonus rewards!
There is a boss battle in this game as well where you have to impress a bear with your tricks. Each time you meet this bear it will be harder and harder to impress him. Failing to do so results in nothing good happening to you. There are some interesting social aspects in this game as well such as passing by tombstones of where you friends have died. Morbid yet funny.
RAD Boarding doesn’t have a specific release date just yet but the game will be coming to Android pretty soon. We’ll post an update when that happens. In the meantime, you can check out the game’s trailer in the video below.
