Google finally working on a Game Center type of feature for Android?

We’ve covered this topic in the past on more than one occasion, with coding found in the source of Google+ and Google Games, and other things that point to Google working on a Game Center type of feature for Android games. This is something that we have been saying for awhile now that is absolutely needed and it looks like it could finally be arriving.

Of course we’ve also said that in the past and have so far ended up disappointed to say the least, so take all of this with a grain of salt. However, folders inside the recent MyGlass application update strongly suggest that Google is working on this type of feature. This service, according to a recent tear down of the application where these folders were found, will have things like in-game chat, lobbies, leaderboards, and achievements for Android devices and the games we play.

Interestingly enough, it seems these folders were included in the update by accident and aren’t even supposed to be there in the first place. All the files left would essentially be bridging a connection between your Android device and the service’s servers. Basically how Game Center for iOS works for the most part.

It will be interesting to see if this actually comes true this time or, if history repeats itself, we end up with nothing once again. Google I/O isn’t far off so let’s start hoping for some good news. You can dig deeper into the detail of the tear down and the files inside over at Android Police.
