Swedish indie developer Itatake has opened pre-registration for Gumslinger 2: Ducks & Nukes on Android. A follow-up to its earlier mobile hit, this new instalment brings the casual shooting in a new avatar. This time, it offers fully 3D visuals, pairing exaggerated gummy physics with brightly coloured, vibrant worlds.
It’s absurdity rather than realism, and you know it!
Physics-based gummy candy shooter Gumslinger was released in April 2020 on mobile. It went on to become the winner at the Google Play’s Indie Game Festival 2021. An arcade shooter with soft-body physics, it became a hit due to its simple yet engaging gameplay and hilarious elements.
Now, Gumslinger 2: Ducks & Nukes on Android is following on from the original. Like its predecessor, the sequel revolves around 1v1 duelling, where two gummy characters face off in turn-based gunfights.
The setting draws from a Wild West backdrop, which makes it more fun and funnier, too. Players exchange bullets until one character dies. But the way those bullets behave and what replaces them later on is where the game shines.
Gumslinger 2 turns the entire environment into part of the fight. Objects can be sucked up and launched, transforming everyday items and ridiculous hazards into weapons. Rubber ducks, baby nukes, chainsaws, anvils, cosy armchairs and other unlikely projectiles: you just name it!
The developers are bringing a floppy, jelly-like physics that sends Gumslingers tumbling, flying and bouncing around the screen when they get hit. In this game series, controlling your own character can be just as challenging as outplaying your opponent.
