While there are ports of some of the old school FPS games that have graced our PC or consoles in the past available on Android, these are at their core, just ports. There is nothing wrong with a port of one of these old games but if you are looking for something a little more original, there isn’t a whole lot to choose from.
There is one game on the Android Market that brings the love of old school FPS titles to your device without actually being a port of an existing game and this game is called Gloomy Dungeons 3D. Developed by United Fun Traders, which is a one person studio, Gloomy Dungeons 3D brings you a Wolfenstein 3D / DOOM style of fps game to your Android device. The difference is that this game is original in its content versus a simple port over of an existing game.

Developed not using a hi-res engine, Gloomy Dungeons 3D should give Android gamers, regardless of how old your device is, some good FPS loving. You have all the pixel art you can handle that you would find in any of the old school FPS titles but the content is original, having been put together by the developer themselves. You may recognize some of the sounds and visuals though, especially if you hang around a lot of the open source assets websites out there, but everything is brought together in a nice retro FPS game.
Overall Gloomy Dungeons 3D performs well on every device we have played it on, running smoothly and with pretty accurate controls. If you are looking for something to play along the lines of Wolfenstein 3D but want something more original than just a port of an existing game, not that we are saying ports are bad, then you might want to check this one out. You can nab it off of the Google Play Store for $1.99. The developer also plans to open source the entire game at some point as well.
