Lodsys goes after Angry Birds developers Rovio with patent infringement

You may have thought the the whole Lodsys patent trolling excitement had died but actually we have been collecting names of developers and working in the background over the whole Lodsys patent infringement suits hitting Android developers. A new one added to the list is Rovio.

According to the new documentation regarding a slew of iOS developers getting sued, which include people like EA, Square Enix, Take-Two and Atari, Rovio has been listed as a new one. However, it isn’t just their iOS version of their game in question but the Android one as well. Here is the paragraph regarding Rovio in this new suit:

This brings the total lawsuits going on right now by Lodsys to 37 in total according to FOSS Patents Blog. It’s gotten to a point where some developers are removing their apps from the Android Market’s US access in order to avoid getting sued by Lodsys. That’s pretty sad. What’s just as sad though is that Google has yet to come out and make any sort of statement or action as of yet. While Lodsys is going after deep-pocketed game development studios, we already know of at least 5 indie developers on Android also hit with this.

If you are hit with this welcome package from Lodsys, you are encouraged to contact us so we can get you in touch with the rest of the developers dealing with this and also help out in getting you to information that may help you out. Two such resources are the FOSS Patent Blog who has been following this heavily as of late along with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFF will be able to advise you on what to do next or where to go.
