Looks like Capcom’s Street Fighter IV for Android is on it’s way

It’s been awhile since we talked about Capcom’s signature fighting series Street Fighter and that it would be coming to Android, a few months at least. Well it’s starting to look like it is on it’s way and Capcom, partnering up with LG, are hosting a tournament to celebrate the launching of Street Fighter IV HD.

Street Fighter IV HD will be exclusive to the LG Nitro HD (AT&T) here in the USA and on the LG Optimus LTE in Korea and Japan when it launches. Hopefully this exclusivity won’t remain for too long because, and I’m sure I speak for a lot of you who are reading this, we want to play it too! The game will come with full HD graphics at 720p resolution and fitted for dual-core devices.

The tournament has an official site that just went live and you can check out all the details of it including signing up to compete and try to win some of the $21,000 in prize money up. Not a bad pool of cash for playing a game on a phone. Each country in the tournament will hold a qualifying round and the winner of that round will be flown to Seoul to fight it out with other qualifiers, on TV, over five episodes on the TV channel OnGameNet.

For those of you interested, the USA qualifiers are on January 14th although you are free to sign-up now for it. No word on when the game will actually launch but it’s safe to say it’ll be in the new year. As a ex-hardcore Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat/Tekken junkie, I may just have to enter myself.
