Metro Quester | Osaka has officially landed on mobile today. Created by KEMCO, it’s the second instalment in the Metro Quester series. It’s moving from the ruined landscapes of Tokyo to the water-veined remains of Osaka.
The game was created by manga artist Kazushi Hagiwara and designed by Hironori Kato. It has the appeal of old-school RPGs with tactical depth. Metro Quester | Osaka Mobile leans into the retro 1980s computer game with all the auto-mapping and hack-and-slash combat
A dungeon exploration RPG
This time, the dungeon design benefits from a more open and organic structure. Osaka’s map is bigger than the one in Tokyo and less linear. So, it gives you more options for how you want to approach your descent.
Breakable walls, creature nests, supply caches, and vaults offer plenty of detours and surprises. Keys function as shortcuts to make your Fuel management more efficient. The real roadblocks are boss monsters, who gate your traversal and also set the level cap for your party.
One of the major new additions in Osaka is water traversal. You can use piers and canoes to cross rivers and reach otherwise isolated areas. But it costs one more unit of Fuel to do so. There are both quiet riverbanks and pretty chaotic ones surrounded by slimy, aquatic creatures.
In Metro Quester | Osaka Mobile, you can choose from five themed starting parties. Many characters return from the previous game, now joined by locals unique to the chapter. There are eight available classes called Detonator, Buddhist, Professor, Stealer, Scientist, Mobile Police, Officer, and Ranger.
New monsters like the Scavenger Mawshroom, Bloodsucker Bat, Abnormal Antlion, and Caustic Flesh Wall populate the deeper levels. The increased enemy density makes each dungeon run scarier yet challenging.
If you liked the first game, chances are you’ll like this one, too. So, check out the game on the Google Play Store.
