Application Systems Heidelberg has released Mutropolis on mobile today. It’s a quirky sci-fi detective story developed by Pirita Studio. Application Systems has previously released popular titles like Unforeseen Incidents, LUNA The Shadow Dust and The Longing.
The point-and-click adventure was already available on PC via Steam. Meanwhile, Application Systems is preparing to drop a second title, Growbot on mobile, continuing the studio’s saga of mobile storytelling.
What is Mutropolis about?
Set in the year 5000, Mutropolis follows archaeologist Henry Dijon and his small team of misfit researchers. They have left Mars behind to excavate the ruins of Earth. Civilisation as we know it has long been forgotten, from the pyramids to the Mona Lisa to popular sitcoms.
None of it rings a bell to the future society, except for this particular group of nerdy explorers still fascinated by ancient Earth pop culture. What begins as a curious dig soon escalates into something far stranger.
It’s when Henry’s mentor, Professor Totel, suddenly disappears. Disturbing truths begin to surface as they find out that the gods of ancient Egypt are real. And they have some unresolved business with humans.
You’ll help Henry explore the ruins in search of the legendary lost city of Mutropolis. It’s full of sci-fi tech, ancient artefacts, and obscure relics that baffle the future mind. Take a look at the game below.
The game is lighthearted but with a thoughtful tone
Questions like who or what a Sony Walkman was are presented as humorous mysteries. The writing leans into absurdity, and the puzzles are challenging, with almost no illogical item combinations.
Mutropolis stretches across three acts and features over 50 hand-drawn environments. Voice acting is fully implemented in English, with subtitles in multiple languages.
Visually, the game has a bold colour palette that makes even ruins on Earth feel lively. Most puzzles reward observation, while every object or line of dialogue usually serves a purpose.
Now available for $4.49 on the Google Play Store, Mutropolis is a nice point-and-click adventure. If you like sci-fi and archaeological stories and want a bit of humour in it, it’s sure worth giving a shot.
