New development studio Super Icon announces their first two games

A new game development studio coming out of London called Super Icon have announced that they will be developing games for the Playstation Mobile platform, along with other mobile platforms such as iOS and Android non-Playstation Certified devices. Super Icon already has two games in the works that look to bring back the memories of the old school gaming days long since passed.

Originally Super Icon wanted to build 3D games but for a few reasons they decided to switch their game plan and developed 2D games instead. These games are not just old school titles in terms of art but also with the content that will come inside the games with one of them featuring levels made out of old school console systems.

Life of Pixel

Life of Pixel is a puzzle platformer with an interesting concept, at least in terms of level design. Each world in this game will take place inside an old school console system such as the Atari 2600, ZX81, ZX Spectrum, C64, CPC, BBC, and the NES. What is even more great is that when you play in the world of one of those consoles, the graphics and patterns will be that of those consoles. So, for example, when playing inside the ZX Spectrum world, all the visuals will be the same style as actual ZX Spectrum games.

There isn’t a whole lot of details right now about Life of Pixel in terms of exactly how much content there will be, release date or pricing unfortunately. However, when we find out more, we will be sure to update everyone.

MegaBlast

This particular game is an old school space shooter that is influenced by the arcade games from back in the day like Galaga. While this is supported to be an old school shooter, Super Icon has gone ahead and brought a little bit of a modern flare to the game with various visual effects using vectors and glow effects.

MegaBlast will stick to the old school arcade format as well, with your goal being nothing more than to get the high score and best ranking in the game. There is also a pretty extensive upgrade system for weapons as well which you’ll need to take advantage of for the boss fights and later levels.

According to Super Icon, both games are pretty close to being completed so even though we don’t have any sort of specific release date for either of them, it shouldn’t be long before we get to play both games. They will be available on the Playstation Mobile platform and most likely Google Play for non-Playstation Certified devices as well.
