New TI OMAP 4440 processors already on the way – 1.5GHz speed anyone?

TI just announced that while their older version of the OMAP processor, the 4430, hasn’t even made it to devices for public consumption yet, they are already working on a new 4440 processor. The two Cortex-A9-based cores can hit speeds as high as 1.5GHz, the current 4430 version tops out at 1GHz.

Overall, there should be an improvement of 1.25x in graphics rendering, 30% decline in web page loading times and 1080p playback performance that doubles the slower 4430, according to Engadget’s report. Devices with the older 4430 processor are slated for release early next year but at the rate things are going, we should see the new 4440 processor dropping into mobile devices in the second half of next year.

Looks like some of the other dual-core processors coming out are going to have some great competition which means only one things for us, better devices to play games on! These bad boys will also be able to handle 1080p stereoscopic 3D!
