After years of speculation, rumours, and sea-themed memes, Jagex is finally adding the one feature that many of us were dying to see in OSR. A skill more than a feature, Old School RuneScape is getting the long-awaited Sailing skill next month.
When exactly is Old School RuneScape getting the Sailing skill?
The Sailing skill is arriving in Old School RuneScape on November 19th, 2025. It’s been more than two years since players voted for Sailing to become the game’s first new skill in over a decade, beating out Taming and Shamanism in a community poll.
Since then, Jagex has rolled out constant updates, community polls, and both alpha and beta tests earlier this year. All of this gave players an early taste of what it means to be the captain of their own vessel.
The last time a new skill was introduced to Old School RuneScape was back in November 2006, when Hunter arrived. So, it’s been almost 19 years since the last one.
Meanwhile, take a look at the latest trailer that Old School RuneScape dropped featuring the upcoming Sailing skill.
Yay or nay?
Sailing is almost like a full expansion, and hence it has seen so many tests and changes before the final version gets released. It increases the playable map size by 190%, unlocking RuneScape’s long-hidden open waters.
Once it drops, you’ll be able to explore previously unreachable areas, salvage shipwrecks, and encounter new NPCs and questlines. You’ll finally be able to build your own vessels and set course into waters that once only existed as blue pixels on the map.
