Popular Indie Platformer Super Meat Boy Hits Nvidia Shield

Developed by Team Meat, the award-winning indie platformer Super Meat Boy is now available to download on Nvidia Shield Android TV. Inspired by classic games like Ghost ‘n Goblins and Super Mario Bros., Super Meat Boy is a precision-based puzzle platformer that puts your reflexes and quick thinking to the test. Super Meat Boy’s levels become increasingly challenging the further you progress in the game, too.

In Super Meat Boy, players are cast as a little cube of meat whose girlfriend, Bandage Girl, has been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Fetus so Meat Boy has to traverse each platform-filled level to rescue her. Meat Boy can move left and right, jump and perform multiple jumps by bouncing off walls. Simple enough, you might think, but Meat Boy moves so quickly and the platforms are often so narrow, that making progress requires a great deal of precision and at times lightning-fast reactions.

To make matters more challenging, many of the maze-like levels are scrolling inexorably down the screen making it imperative that Meat Boy keeps moving. If he disappears off the bottom of the screen you have to start again. In addition there are various hazards such as crumbling platforms and circular saws that are tricky to avoid.

It’s not completely unforgiving. Levels are made available in batches so if you get stuck on a particular level you can leave it for a different challenge. However, you must complete a certain number of levels in a batch in order to unlock the next group.

You can download Super Meat Boy now on Nvidia Shield Android TV via Google Play for $14.99.
