There is currently a Punishing Gray Raven advertisement in Times Square. No, it’s not a simple billboard or poster – it’s on the big screen! In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s the same screen that recently featured a commercial for Nikke.

Behold the Punishing Gray Raven Times Square Advertisement!

That’s two major gacha games making an appearance in none other than Times Square – a hit tourist spot that results in more eyes on your product. Showcasing some of the characters from Puninishing Gray Raven’s roster, the bright display illuminates the city with bigger-than-ever-before anime girls – what’s not to love about it?

It’s a pretty decently sized digital billboard too, which will surely catch the attention of those passing by. With anime becoming more mainstream in recent years, it probably doesn’t provide the shock factor that an advertisement like this would have once caused.

The Success of the Gacha Genre

However, the majority of the public probably don’t know what a gacha game is – for better or worse depending on how you feel about the genre! Still, the fact that two of the most successful gacha games right now are making their way onto the big screen in the Big Apple, it’s hard not to be impressed at how far the genre has come.

Can we thank the popularity of Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail for this? Perhaps. These two titles have skyrocketed in popularity and opened many people up to the gacha world in general.

Nikke and Punishing Gray Raven can’t exactly be compared to the HoYoverse titles in terms of gameplay style, and gacha games have always had loyal fanbases, but there’s no denying that the genre is here to stay – which I’m glad about as a big gacha fan!
