NetEase Games has announced a new RPG Sea of Remnants for PS5, PC, and mobile. It’s getting developed by Joker Studio, the team behind Identity V, and published by NetEase. They’re planning to drop the game in 2026.
What’s the Story?
You begin as a puppetfolk sailor. You get over 300 companions to recruit and then train them for battles. The game has exploration, ship customisation with modular parts and turn-based combat. It has an open world with single player at its core.
The story is about memory and loss. Sailors who fall into the Sea of Remnants lose their most prized skills, and yet they keep coming back. The sea itself is made of memories, both yours and those from forgotten captains.
Orbtopia is the pirate city where you can dock your ships. It’s a typical pirate land where you can smell frying oil and animals like roosters and cats running in the alleys. Orbtopia evolves with your choices, too.
The game has real-time weather that changes your journey. Sunlight turns to storm without warning, whirlpools twist the map, and leviathans descend from clouds. From volcanic islands to haunted ruins, it’s survival all the way down.
The devs have released a couple of trailers for Sea of Remnants Mobile. Watch them here!
Sea of Remnants Will Be Free to Play on Mobile
The game is officially labelled free-to-play, and there’s no open mention of gacha. But due to its massive cast, modular systems everywhere, and live service ambitions, it wouldn’t be surprising if some kind of loot-based mechanics surface later.
With the first glimpses of the game, the devs have definitely succeeded in grabbing the attention of players. Visually, I’d say they’ve done a great job. The game is full of stylised visuals that mash up animated art, comic book edges, graffiti bursts, and glitchy surrealism. You can see more visuals of the game on the official website.
