Sky: Children of the Light has added a new feature this Season of Migration, the Friendship System. It changes how you connect with spirits, spend candles, and progress through seasonal trees. The team has dropped a detailed walkthrough for the system.
The Friendship System moves away from the old linear unlocking method in Sky: Children of the Light
In previous seasons, unlocking items meant following a strict path up each spirit tree, spending candles on every step. That setup often forced players to buy unwanted items just to reach the ones they cared about.
With the new Friendship System, you have the choice between traditional unlocking and what’s called the Friendship Path. The traditional method still lets you spend candles in order, while the Friendship Path is more about building a relationship.
By taking spirits on adventures, completing quests, and spending time with them, you can strengthen bonds and unlock items through friendship.
Sky also introduced Spirit Moments, special scenes that become available once a spirit feels a deeper connection to you. You can invite one spirit companion per day to join your adventures. And as you explore the world of Sky together, your friendship gradually grows.
Once a spirit is ready to leave, you’ll be prompted to say goodbye from the friendship menu. That interaction will raise your friendship level. According to the devs, it currently takes about four days of adventuring to reach the lowest friendship tier, with higher tiers taking longer.

Blessings and dyes are now optional and cheaper than before, while cosmetics have gone up slightly in price. Despite that change, the average player is still expected to spend fewer candles overall across the season.
Meanwhile, reaching the fourth friendship tier with a spirit won’t just happen automatically. You’ll need to visit their favourite place and take part in a special journey to unlock their most meaningful keepsakes.
