Square Enix sees a performance increase in profit thanks largely due to their mobile games

Square Enix has released their newest financial results for the most recent quarter and the company is seeing a nice increase in profits, with a large part of that coming in thank of their mobile games catalog. Of course it wasn’t all because of mobile gaming. Square Enix also saw profits increase thanks to their recent push with their MMO content and expansions.

Generally you can find the occasional tidbit of information regarding upcoming mobile game releases or future plans when reading these quarterly earning reports. A good example of this is when Nintendo releases theirs, we usually get some pretty good information about their upcoming plans. Interestingly enough, Square Enix’s current console title sales are down this quarter but sales of their back catalog are up.

Mobile titles, including Final Fantasy Record Keeper and Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light, continue to bring in significant revenue. However their entire mobile games catalog is doing quite good as a whole. Teaming that up with Square Enix’s recent content and expansion push with their MMOs, and the company has seen quite a nice increase in profits even though current console title sales are down.

Considering this is generally the slowest time of the year for games sales in general, and the biggest period of time for sales is coming up, it should be interesting to see if there profit numbers flip or remain the same (console overtaking mobile sales). Unfortunately, this report was completely about the numbers so there wasn’t much in the way of upcoming game release information.
