Terra Nil has launched a new update called Heatwave with some of the harshest yet most striking environments. Released by Devolver Digital alongside developers Clockwork Acorn and Free Lives, the free update is now live on mobile and Steam.

Heatwave expands the already diverse biomes in Terra Nil with an entirely new arid region. And alongside, there are new and challenging restoration scenarios, wildlife interactions, and eco-tech tools.

What’s in store?

You’ll now work to revitalise three new maps with different environmental puzzles. The first one is Parched Oasis, which takes cues from the real-world Okavango Delta. It tasks you with burning invasive vegetation to restore river flow, then transforming the land into savannah and alluvial zones. Elephants play a key role in maintaining this ecosystem, much like they do in nature.

Next, Canyon Peaks, inspired by the Grand Canyon, splits the map with a massive gorge. It lets you to deal with oil fires that can drain resources if left unchecked on one side. You also deal with a radioactive city in need of cleansing on the other.

The third map is Fracked Floodplain. It challenges you to clean up industrial oil spills before reviving the desert’s watering holes. You then need to construct a biofuel-powered rocket to link up with your existing spacecraft in orbit.

The Heatwave update also enriches Terra Nil’s wildlife

There are 13 new species, from crocodiles and elephants to hyenas and vultures. They appear more organically in the environment and linger for longer periods. Also, there’s a new photography mode allows you to capture these animals in their revitalised habitats.

Two notable eco-tech additions are also making their debut. The remotely operated land recycling bot and the Xerophytium, a structure that helps restore cactus biomes. All of this expands your options for restoring life to barren terrain.

Terra Nil now features all five major climate zones. Check out the game on the Google Play Store.
