Weekend Mechanic is an app that lets you take apart engines in 3D

Depending on how you look at this app, you could say it is sort of a puzzle game or you could say it is an educational application. We happen to look at it as more of a puzzle game where you build engines in 3D. Regardless of which way you look at Weekend Mechanic 3D, it is a pretty neat application.

If you have an interest in cars, and more specifically the mechanic aspects of the engine although there are other parts of the car available as well, then you will probably enjoy this app quite a lot. Even better is the realism in that the app was designed by an engineer. You will end up learning how each piece of a car’s engine works, how it fits together, and what each piece actually does. I look at it as more of an interactive puzzle where I am putting an engine together.

Currently you can rotate, zoom in/out, add transparency to parts, remove and add components and more. There is also a rather cool exploded component feature as well which basically takes a section of the engine, and ‘explodes’ it, separating all the components so you can see them all. Current models include the Battery, Engine Valve Cover, Ignition Coil, PCV Valve, Spark Plug, Alternator, Starter, Disc Brakes, Brake Pads, Rotor, Oxygen Sensor, Piston, Flywheel, Ring gear, and Camshaft. There is also three animated “How It Works” videos to check out with narration.

For those of you interested in checking this out, Weekend Mechanic 3D can be downloaded off of Google Play for free with optional IAPs.
