WildTanget does some fast expansion on Android including now launching in the UK

WildTangent seems to be taking a bit of an aggressive approach to expanding their game rental service on Android. Not only is WildTanget launching in the UK today but it is also now available for all Android devices as well here in the US and is not exclusive to T-Mobile anymore. Also it will be coming pre-installed on the Sony S and Sony P tablets.

For those of you in the UK, here is the service outline for you below:

  • Free rentals of the full game (not limited or ad supported versions) on almost every title for 4 hours of gameplay
  • The option to continue renting (from 15p per day) after initial free trail using its own digital currency WildCoins
  • Any WildCoins spent on renting a game are later deducted from the purchase price if users decide to buy

It’s pretty much the same as it is here in the US just that the currency is slightly different. For those of you in the US, the average price of a game rental for a day is $0.25. There are some pretty big named titles on there already as well including Fruit Ninja, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Raging Thunder but there is plenty more than just those three. You can rent as long as you want and you pay using WildCoins which is WildTangent’s currency that is used to pay for rentals.

Also coming to light is that WildTanget will be coming pre-installed on Sony S and Sony P Android tablets. This could be exclusive to the UK though and the US Sony tablets may not see this being pre-installed on them. Either way though, WildTangent seems to be making a big play at the possibly profitable Android game rental industry.

Thanks to Alex for the heads up on the UK information.
