Featuring five games already, six if you include the unlockable Machinarium game if you chose to pay over the average amount being paid for the bundle at the time of you purchasing it, the Humble Bundle 4 for Android has seen quite a bit of success, selling over 124,000 bundles, adding up to over $760,000 in total sales in the first week. At the beginning of this month we talked about a new emulator being developed by the same folk who created the rather widely used fully working Wii emulator called Dolphin for PCs and that they were now working on building a fully functioning emulator called PPSSPP which would let you play all those favorite PSP games you still own. At the time of reporting on this, PPSSPP was only available for download through the developer’s website.
For those of you who have patiently waited for Sega’s upcoming revamping of the Dreamcast classic game Jet Set Radio, officially to be called Jet Set Radio HD, there is some good news finally after a long time of silence. It appears that Sega is gearing up to release Jet Set Radio on multiple platforms this month, with Android and iOS getting it on November 29th, 2012. In a bit of an interesting twist, the product listing on Sega’s site says it is already out but don’t believe that, it won’t be till the 29th.
Chillingo has released a couple of new games onto the Google Play store this morning called This Could Hurt and Grow Away. Both games are very different from each other with This Could Hurt being a 3D platformer while Grow Away is a game similar to a lot of the other ‘vs’ types of games already available on Android except this one is themed around food vs bad diet.
In what will most likely go down in history as one of the strangest team-ups in mobile gaming, Danny Trejo, of Sons of Anarchy fame along with god knows how many movies he’s been in, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak will be teaming up to release a new mobile game for ‘tablets’ called Danny Trejo’s Vengeance: Woz With A Coz. Having been released over a week ago as a location-based early access beta for folks in Canada and Australia, Spacetime Studios have gone ahead and officially launched their newest title in the Legends franchise called Arcane Legends. A new turn-based strategy / RPG called Hunters: Episode One has arrived onto the Google Play store for anyone who want to become a rather bad ass space bounty hunter. By now, I suppose all of you know of the Humble Bundle for Android 4, and have in the process snagged yourselves five (or six, if you paid above the average) great indie games that are mostly making their debut on Android. If you haven’t already got the bundle, then do yourself and the whole of humanity a favor by getting it!
As the Android world evolves, so does the content that is being released into the Play store. What was once a platform dominated by great casual games such as Cut the Rope and Dragon Fly, is now being taken over by the more ‘hardcore’ of games like Need for Speed, Shadowgun and Modern Combat. Controllers are being introduced and the Ouya is on the horizon. This is where I wish to go back to basics, highlighting the best casual games that deserve to be noticed and get them out of the shadows of the bigger budget games. Our first game is Backflip Madness by Gamesoul Studios.
