We knew it was going to happen, especially with the Xperia Play launch imminent. Sony has officially unleashed some Playstation One games onto the Android Market. Pokemon Tower Defense pulled off the Android Market. Faster then we thought it would but has a new home.
About two weeks ago we posted about an awesome little tower defense game with a bunch of RPG elements mixed into it themed around Pokemon. The game, called Pokemon Tower Defense, featured awesome retro-pixel art graphics, the original 150 Pokemon mixed together with tower defense gameplay and RPG leveling.
Last night Google decided that it was time for in-app purchasing to leave the final testing phase it entered last week and go fully live. Also to help with the launch, a few developers have released games featuring in-app purchases already. Of course they were all games which is fine with us! It’s good to see this finally available for everyone.
If you are a game developer who has been waiting for Google’s in-app purchasing SDK to become available, it looks like the wait is almost over. If you haven’t checked your developer account on the Android Market, now might be a good time to check. You should notice a little addition to your app listings!
Google has flipped the switch to the “On” position for a neat tool for Android developers to use. When signed into you Android Market account, you will be treated to a new link under each app/game you have uploaded to the Android Market labeled as “Statistics”. This will give you a break down of all sort of helpful information.
Today Google held theirĀ media event which it will shown live on YouTube. While we aren’t at the actual event, we watched the live showing of the event where they were showing a preview of Honeycomb. Other announcements were rumored to be coming in the event such as a web-based marketplace.
Can you hear that? That is the sound of the word “Finally” being cheered throughout the developer community, especially regarding the Android gaming sector, as Google announced a few new enhancements coming out way in the first quarter of 2011. The major one is the ability to allow in-app purchases.
Keeping on with this weeks trend of talking about Gameloft, at CES 2011 I was talking to the fine folks over at the Verizon booth and the topic of Gameloft came up. A fellow gamer over at the Verizon booth was talking to us and we happen to mention the issue many people have with Gameloft not putting their games up on the market.
As you may already know there has recently been a change to the android market. There’s a nice new UI which makes it easier to find what you need. It has also allowed developers to add more screenshots of their app, and allowed for a longer description which ultimately leads to better advertisement.
Well it seems even with the new user interface and options for developers in the back end that the Android Market team isn’t done yet which is good! Today more categories have been added to the market to help with organization and also announced just a moment ago is the ability for AT&T customers to charge purchases to their bill.
