Interesting news coming out of northern Japan today as an official ‘No Video Games Day’ has been started in order to curb video game playing in the Hokkaido Prefecture. So far this “No Video Games Day’ is only for the Hokkaido Prefecture and isn’t a nation-wide event although it could certainly turn into one.

When the flurry of Android-based micro-consoles were being developed and hitting the market, Mad Catz’s MOJO was the leader of the pack and still is considering there hasn’t been any real micro-consoles coming out since then. The Obox from Snail Games isn’t really a micro-console and it isn’t even out yet so that doesn’t really count.
The physics-based puzzle game Polarity has gotten a sequel released on the Ouya console called Polaroty: Partners in Crime. As the title suggests, this new sequel has a multiplayer theme to it, offering up both co-op and competitive split screen multiplay for gamers to partake in.
Today Razer announced their solution to bringing PC and Android games to the big screen with their Forge TV set top box. The company is describing this as a game and entertainment console since it isn’t just made for straight gameplay but also to use services like Netflix, YouTube, and other more entertainment based applications. Along with the unveiling of Forge TV, Razer also unveiled their new Bluetooth controller called Serval and the Turret Lapboard and mouse combo.
One of the more interesting announcements so far, at least in the realm of Android-based gaming, has to be Snail Games’ set of gaming-centric Android phones and their Android-based game console. Snail Games had plenty of both phones, The W and The W 3D, available for some hands-on time as well as the OBox console. We will get into the phones in another article though.
If there is one thing you can count on for with Gameloft, it is the fact that they will always be one of the first developers to optimize their games for any new upcoming gaming hardware or platforms based off of Android that look promising. Whether it was the Ouya console or the GameStick, they usually have a few games announced as ready to go for that particular platform’s release.
Razer announced the Forge TV today at CES 2015. The Forge TV is an Android-based gaming and entertainment console which is set to release soon, Q1 of 2015. On top of that, Razer announced a selection of peripherals to compliment their new set top box.
We missed last week’s installment of Fun Fridays due to the holidays but we won’t be missing it this week. If you are not familiar with this new series we recently started, this is basically a bit of a showcase of some of the more humorous, entertaining, or just plain cool things we’ve seen during the week that has happened in the video game industry. So the insanity that is called Black Friday, and to a lesser extent Cyber Monday, is now over and there were plenty of pretty awesome deals to take advantage of if you happen to have a bit of spare cash on hand. Some of the better deals included devices like Amazon’s Fire Android Phone, the unlocked version, which was discounted a rather large $250.
A rather enjoyable looking game is heading to the Ouya console this month called MouseCraft. The best way to describe this game is that it resembles the older classic game Lemmings in terms of the mechanics that you will be dealing with. The goal is to get the mice to the cheese in each level.
